Academic Enrichment Experience
Academic Enrichment Experience
Students can fulfill their academic enrichment experience requirement by completing one of the following courses:
- ASC 330 Peer Mentorship & Instruction in Animal Sciences
- Student is a peer instructor for ASC 101 Domestic Animal Biology.
- Student completes the course requirements.
- A letter grade is given to the student at the end of the semester.
- ASC 395 Independent Study in Animal Sciences
- Student works with a faculty member to identify an undergraduate research project.
- Student and faculty complete the independent study contract.
- 1 credit hour – 48 hours of work
- 2 credit hours – 96 hours of work
- 3 credit hours – 144 hours of work
- Student obtains necessary signatures on the contract and turns the contract into Ann Leed. The student will be registered for ASC 395 by Ann Leed.
- A letter grade is given to the student at the end of the semester.
- ASC 399 Experiential Learning in Animal Sciences
- Review Internship Requirements
- Review Course Syllabus
- Determine an experience or internship that fulfills the internship requirements. Meet with internship supervisor to determine duties, learning objectives, contact hours, etc.
- Set up meeting with Colette Tebeau if you are completing a veterinary type internship or Ann Leed for all other internships BEFORE beginning internship. This meeting will determine number of credit hours, review learning objectives and specify required assignments and due dates.
- Complete ASC 399 Internship Program Learning and Supervisor Contract.
- Provide internship supervisor.
- Return completed paperwork to faculty mentor, Colette Tebeau or Ann Leed. Follow additional directions given by faculty mentor.
- Once completed paperwork is received and approved, the student will be added to the appropriate section of ASC 399 for the predetermined number of credit hours.
- Once all assignments are completed and student has met with Colette Tebeau or Ann Leed, a final letter grade will be assigned.
- EAP 599 Study Abroad
- Student works with the UK Education Abroad Office to apply for an education abroad experience.
- Enroll in EAP 599 for the semester or summer traveling abroad.
- Student fulfills the requirements of EAP 599 (pre-departure meeting, post-departure meeting, seminar).
- A pass/fail grade is given to the student at the end of the semester.
