Pre-Vet Experience Day 2025 took place February 15 at the Thoroughbred Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Pre-Vet Experience Day Attendees can choose between informational sessions based on their level of knowledge and stage of preparation for vet school. Those early in their investigation of the pre-veterinary pathway can select sessions focused on assessing veterinary schools and understanding requirements. Those students further along in their pre-vet journey can learn more about the application to veterinary school (VMCAS) along with activities like testing, writing a personal statement, and interviews.

All students will gather together for an in-depth look at the diverse career possibilities found in the veterinary industry followed by a presentation by the VIN Foundation on smart finances. Attendees will wrap up the morning with a veterinary panel discussing the challenges presented by the field of veterinary medicine and suggestions on ways to navigate these issues.

Lunch is provided and brings the opportunity for students to network with speakers, veterinarians and sponsors, forging valuable industry connections. Attendees who complete our networking lunch passport will be entered to win a door prize!

The Pre-Vet Experience Day concludes with attendees getting the opportunity to visit with veterinarians whose jobs revolve around a specific area of veterinary medicine. Site options include Equine, Small Animal, Large Animal, Mixed Animal, and wildlife focuses (see more detail below).

We hope you will register for this wonderful opportunity to improve your knowledge of the pre-veterinary pathway and the veterinary industry!

Presented by the University of Kentucky’s Pre-Veterinary Advising Program, in conjunction with UK Animal and Food Sciences Department, UK Ag Equine Programs and Kentucky Horse Council, this day-long event offered students insight into a variety of pre-vet and veterinary topics.

Attendees chose between informational sessions based on their level of knowledge and stage of preparation for vet school. Those early in their investigation of the pre-veterinary pathway selected sessions focused on assessing veterinary schools and preparing a competitive veterinary school application. Those students further along in their pre-vet journey opted into sessions providing insight into the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) application and the diverse career possibilities in the veterinary field.

All students gathered together before lunch for a "Issues in Veterinary Medicine" presentation followed by a group panel discussion focused on successfully navigating the veterinary industry.

In the afternoon, students participated in one of four veterinary career path explorations with focus options including companion/small animal, livestock, equine or government/academia. These tours gave attendees the opportunity to view a veterinary facility and ask questions of a professional in their area of interest.

Many students finished off the Pre-Vet Experience Day by attending the optional networking dinner. Students were given the opportunity to engage with sponsors, advisors, veterinarians and other industry professionals while enjoying a catered dinner.
