George Heersche Retiring

Dr. George Heersche will retired June 30, 2022 after serving 42 years as Dairy Specialist and Extension Faculty member of the Department of Animal and Food Sciences at the University of Kentucky.

George Heersche

Dr. Heersche has coordinated and directed the dairy youth program for all 42 years of his career. To these youth, he has been a “father-figure” providing inspiration and life-long guidance and friendship. Many of these 4-H youth have won national 4-H dairy judging contests and all have gone on to make successful and meaningful contributions to the dairy industry. Many of these participants represented several generations within a family.

In addition to his youth responsibilities, Dr. Heersche has provided expertise in reproduction management. He has provided advice one-on-one and through lectures and field days to not only Kentucky farmers, but also those throughout the US, to improve their herd’s reproductive performance.

George: The UK Dairy team wants to personally thank you for your guidance, support, and contributions over your career. We wish you and Kathy the best as you enter this new chapter in life.
